I did a wash and vac on a 2008 Range Rover earlier today. Same old, same old. But when the owner showed up a bit early, everyone was acting very nervous. I saw his name on the ticket, and decided to Google it and see if there's a reason they were acting so strange. Turns out, the owner has a net worth of $2.2 billion.

2.2 Billion and he drives a 2008?

Wow. I wonder what else he has in his garage. He'd have some major cojones if his only vehicle was the Rover. Also, if that is his primary transportation, having one of those is pretty humble. I mean, yes, it's an upscale vehicle, but certainly someone with that kind of worth could afford literally any vehicle they wanted.

Oh damn. Maybe you should consider working at home with Google. I hear it's BMW money.

Oh man, BMW money.
I also overheard a salesman talking about his commission from selling a RR and an XJ.
I chose the wrong field to start off in.

That's what I thought, as well. It had over 30k miles on it, too.

With that kind of net worth, one can offord to keep a 2008 on the road for at least two years.

Hell, if I had that kind of money, I'd probably drive a car for 6 months or so, and then trade it in.

Maybe it's his cheap beater he leaves on the driveway... outside a garage bigger than my family home.

What ze hell, a 2008 with that kind of money?

I dunno, he could probably have it as his only vehicle. I'd be willing to bet he gets the "VIP loaner" every time it breaks down.

Had a similar story. We had a local gentleman come in to our school to talk about his family business and what some of the keys to success were. I didn't really know how big his "family business" was when I met him (I was 12) but I had heard of the baseball team he and his family own. He has since become our governor.

I don't know if I would consider a range rover, of any sort, to be under the radar.

I used to work on a customers cars whos networth was $400 million.....
He used to bring his fleet of cars to my work to get worked on state inspections, and whatever else was needed....
Very nice down to earth guy but intimidating at the same time.
Me and him actually sat down and talked a few times about cars.
He owns a huge collection of cars....owns Binnie Racing....
No one was scared of him or nervous around him, just treated him like one of the guys.

Our pizza place once delivered to Herb Simon's house; apparently dude likes living simply (for a billionaire) since his place wasn't that opulent, at least compared to his brother's mansion on Ditch.

I'm not surprised. I mean, he could afford to have a personal mechanic, but get his vehicle repaired at the dealer.
He seems like a nice guy, everyone just concerns themselves too much with making everything "perfect".

Some people become wealthy by not buying things they don't have to and applying that philosophy to, literally, everything.

That's just the nature of the service industry for people like that. My experience of working in wealthy areas like Carmel and Zionsville is that for every person like Simon there's two who demand nothing but perfection and become irrationally angry if that's not what they get. First time he came in you guys didn't know what he was like so everything had to be perfect, and now that he's a regular you can't just slack off because he's a cool dude.
We kind of have a similar deal with Chuck Pagano, who comes in semi-regularly during the offseason. My boss flips trying to schedule the best waitress to take his table and have the best cook on ovens the night of his reservation and he and his family just seem like normal people who couldn't care less (once he was nice enough to hold the door open for me once when I was leaving with two pizza bags). Moral of the story is you never know, so you might as well do your best.

2.2 BILLION..... so he budgeted appropriately for repairs.

Or just do it Saudi Style; abandon yesterday's old porridge in a lonely parking garage and let it collect dust. Who know what happened to it? Who cares, got the new hotness now, ain't nobody got time for yesterday.
But...PS9, that car you abandoned costs four hundred and fifty tho-

Minor ones, maybe. Major catastrophic ones will need him to take out some loans. He's likely good for it though.
